Observer Food Awards, BMW and More

Lynn Asghar Oct 20, 2016

What a week! (9th-15th October)

It began on Friday with some of the team hopping on a plane to LA for a week of events to celebrate the Centenary of the BMW Group – The next 100 years. There were 20 fun-filled events for BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce as well as the BMW dealer network, The Wall Street Journal and GQ Magazine. They were all a huge success with over 4,750 hungry guests enjoying our LA-style food (pictured below) inside a very adaptable hanger space.

Other events this week

Global philanthropic organisation 100 Women in Hedge Funds hosted their annual gala dinner in the beautiful surroundings of London’s Middle Temple. The venue looked spectacular and our team were complimented on their performance. The evening raised a significant amount for this year’s charity, SkillForce and it was an honour to have HRH the Duke of Cambridge, Patron of SkillForce and of the 100 WHF Philanthropy Initiative as the guest of honour.

We also love our smaller more intimate parties and there were plenty of these this week too – The Sloane Square and Covent Garden stores of Jo Malone hosted two cocktail parties and one of our corporate clients entertained guests with delicious AC canapés in their offices. We also helped one of our favourite private clients celebrate Yom Kippur.

Observer Food Awards

Thursday evening found us at London’s Freemason’s Hall where our chefs cooked up a storm with celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson from The Red Rooster to provide the menu for the foodie event of the year, the Observer Food Monthly Awards. The guests were primarily other acclaimed chefs, plus notable food writers and critics; quite a hard crowd to please, but team AC pulled out all the stops and everyone was raving about the food – both on the night and on social media afterwards.

Marcus was born in Ethiopia, raised in Sweden and now lives near his restaurant in Harlem, so there was no surprise when the menu had a delicious Swedish influence. We have it on good authority that Marcus is soon to open a Red Rooster in The Curtain Hotel in Shoreditch.

These hungry chefs enjoyed our food: Pierre Koffman, Fergus Henderson, Tom Kerridge, Sat Bains, Angela Hartnett, Raymond Blanc, Bruno Loubet, Sabrina Ghayour, Jay Rayner, Nigel Slater and Jamie Oliver (and they were just the ones we spotted), plus a host of food writers, critics and journalists.

Champagne flutes were lined up in AC style and joined Sharps’ craft beers which matched each dish.

One of the guests was heard to say, “Each one of your staff is happy, polite and helpful. You made us all feel really special.”

Director Ruth Lawton Owen wrote to our head chef Andy Ritchie and his team, “It was so exciting to see them all enjoying the food you had made. Marcus was very happy with your interpretation of his menu and it was fantastic to show that The AC can hold its own with this calibre of chefs. You should all be really proud – I know we are very proud of you!”

She also praised our event planners, waiting and operations staff, as well as the back of house team, who together, make the cogs of The AC machine turn so smoothly, saying, ‘YOU ROCK’!

And finally, we arrived at the office the next morning to this lovely email from the client.

“Hi Eva and Ruth,

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for doing such an incredible job last night.

Smooth, slick and delicious. And not to mention your endless patience with a demanding tasting team.

You were fantastic and we’ve had so much wonderful feedback. Thank you. X “
